Farm Fresh Market Moves to Fairfield Way on Fridays

Farm Fresh Market hosted by UConn Dining is being held on Fridays from 11:30am-1:30pm on Fairfield Way near the library. Pick up some fresh produce from UConn Spring Valley Student Farm, baked goods from UConn Bakery and then grab lunch from the Food for the Pack truck. Farm Fresh Market accepts credit/debit only. At Spring Valley our growing methods include:

  • No pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, GMO seeds, or chemical fertilizers.
  • Prioritizing biodiversity and respectful stewardship of Spring Valley’s natural resources.

Spring Valley also hosts Farm Fridays from 4-6pm. This is a great way to get involved, help out at the farm for a few hours, and meet some new people. Stop by and ask the student farmers for details or learn more here.

Dining Services to Host Job Fair July 27th

UConn Dining is hiring! Come join our award-winning team with lots of great benefits and opportunities for growth.  We are currently hiring for:

  • Kitchen Assistants ($500 hiring bonus): Our Kitchen Assistants work as the entry level food service position within the assigned location.
  • Chef Assistants ($500 hiring bonus): Our Chef Assistants aid Chefs with prep, set up and service of breakfast, lunch or dinner.
  • Chefs ($500 hiring bonus): Our Chefs prepare food using recipes for the assigned location and complies with menu requirements.
  • Catering Supervisors: Our Catering Supervisors oversee all aspects of assigned catering events from preparation through completion.
  • Catering Kitchen Assistants: Our Catering Kitchen Assistants transport and set up food and linens for different events throughout campus. Valid driver’s license is required. Delivery experience is a plus.

Dining Location Closures July 4th-10th

Please review our upcoming closures during the holiday and following week.

Monday, July 4th (Independence Day) – All Dining locations (including dining halls & main office) will be closed

Putnam Dining hall reopens for students with summer meal plans on July 5th.

July 5th-10th: USM, Market Cafe, C-Store, and Farm Fresh Market will be closed

Up & Atom Cafe in the BioPhysics building will be open 7:30am-3pm from July 5-8th

UConn Dairy Bar will be operating normal hours during this week: Wednesday-Sunday from 11am-9pm

Dairy Bar Truck at Summer Farmers’ Markets

The UConn Dairy Bar truck will be at the Farm Fresh Market on Thursdays on the Storrs campus from 11:30am-1:30pm by the Benton Museum. If there is inclement weather the truck will not be serving. The truck will also be at the Coventry Farmers’ Market this summer on the following dates: June 26th (Dairy Day), July 10th, July 28th, and August 14th. Stop by and grab a cup of your favorite Dairy Bar flavor!! If you’re looking for Dairy Bar ice cream on Mondays and Tuesdays when the Dairy Bar is closed, check out the Union Street Market in the Student Union (lower level). They are selling cups of Dairy Bar ice cream for $3.96 each.

Farm Fresh Market Returns on June 2

Farm Fresh Market hosted by UConn Dining Services returns this summer! Get your fresh produce from UConn Spring Valley Student Farm and baked goods from UConn Bakery every Thursday*, June through September from 11:30am-1:30pm on the Benton Museum patio. Credit/debit only. In case of heavy rain, the market may need to relocate to the Student Union near the Union Street Market food court on the lower level. The market is open to the public with parking available in South garage this summer.

At the first market on June 2nd the UConn Bakery will have pies, coconut macaroons, desserts (including gluten free), and breads for sale. Spring Valley farm will have some vegetables (bunching onions, lettuce, mustard greens, sugar snap peas), herbs, and seedlings (vegetables, flowers, and perennials).

*Farm Fresh Market will not take place on July 7th and August 25th.

Time of the market may change in September.

UConn Dining Wins Gold for NACUFS Best Vegan Recipe

The University of Connecticut Department of Dining Services is honored to accept the Gold Medal for the Best Vegan Recipe contest from the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS). Dining Services has also won the gold award for our vegan recipes in 2018, and 2016, and bronze in 2020.

Our recipe submission, Cinnamon Chipotle Cachapas with Black Bean Avocado Salsa, and Pickled Red Onions, was part of the menu rotation at McMahon dining hall this semester and was showcased as part of a plant-forward event.

“We are proud to have an administration that supports our involvement in NACUFS, a team of managers and chefs that believe in sustainability,” says Robert Landolphi, assistant director of culinary development for UConn Dining Services. “Most importantly we have a student body that dines with us daily and are willing to share with us what is important to them as they assist us in expanding our plant-based cuisine.”

This is the second NACUFS award for Dining Services this year. In March, UConn Dining Chef Sean Hawkins received bronze during a culinary challenge at the NACUFS Mid-Atlantic/Northeast Regional Conference. Hawkins’ award-winning recipe for Herb Crusted Turkey Filet, coriander sweet potatoes, frenched green beans, and a leek cream sauce can be found at the link below.
